What is Breast Surgery?

Breast surgery covers procedures such as:

  • Breast Lift
  • Breast Reduction
  • Breast Enlargement
  • Nipple Correction

What Are Breast Lifts?

Breast lifts (Mastoplexy) raises the breasts by tightening tissue and transforming it into a better shape. The nipple or areola can also be heightened. They suit women who have suffered from the effects of breastfeeding, ageing or a change in body mass, and may have sagging, droopy or lowered breasts. The procedure takes up to 2 hours, is performed under a general anaesthetic and patients can be discharged the same day if deemed appropriate.

What Is A Breast Reduction?

Breast reduction removes excess fat and skin from the breasts, remodelling them into a smaller and more manageable size. People may choose this procedure because they feel embarrassed, they have difficulty doing basic tasks or the breasts are causing discomfort. The procedure takes approximately 2 – 4 hours, is performed under general anaesthetic and patients usually stay in hospital for 1 night following surgery.

How Do Breast Enlargements Work?

Breast enlargement involves inserting implants to increase breast size and volume. Women may want larger breasts due to feelings of underdevelopment, to help balance out body weight or increase self-confidence. The procedure takes 30 minutes – 1 hour to complete, is performed under general anaesthesia, local anaesthesia or sedation and patients can usually go home the same day.

What Is Nipple Correction Surgery?

Nipple correction alters and corrects inverted or enlarged nipples. The procedure takes no longer than an hour, is performed under local anaesthesia and patients can usually go home the same day.

What To Expect After Breast Surgery?

  • A great improvement to the size, shape and position of your breasts.
  • You’ll be advised how to deal with pain and discomfort, and how long this will last.
  • You’ll be advised how much time you’ll need off work.
  • No strenuous activity for 6 weeks following surgery.
  • Follow-up appointments to ensure your breasts are settling correctly.
  • Aftercare advice including medication and how to reduce the risk of infections.
  • Scars will fade 6 – 12 months following surgery, but may never completely disappear.
  • Dependent on surgery, breastfeeding may become difficult.

The Benefits Of Breast Surgery Include:

  • Increased self-confidence and comfortability in one’s skin.
  • Can increase feelings of attractiveness.
